Der "facegeliftete" Volkswagen Race Touareg 3 hat dreiwöchige Testfahrten in Spanien und Marokko erfolgreich absolviert, dabei wurde mehr als die doppelte Dakar-Distanz gefahren. Am 20. August wird der "RT3" in Trier erstmals im Dakar-Trimm der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt, vom 11. bis 18. September erlebt er seine Wettbewerbspremiere bei der Silk Way Rally in Russland.
"Die Testfahrten verliefen mehr als positiv", so Motorsport-Direktor Kris Nissen, der sich vor Ort persönlich ein Bild von den ersten Kilometern des überarbeiteten Autos machte. "Im direkten Vergleich zwischen RT2 und RT3 hat sich gezeigt, dass der neue in vielen Bereichen einen Schritt nach vorn gemacht hat. Seine Zuverlässigkeit war von Anfang an beeindruckend. Wir hatten uns vorgenommen, die anderthalbfache Dakar-Distanz bei Longruns zu absolvieren - am Ende sind wir dank der Standfestigkeit und der sehr guten Arbeit von Fahrern und Team mehr als das doppelte an Kilometern gefahren."
Als Fahrer/Beifahrer-Kombinationen waren alle vier VW-Duos im Einsatz: SA-Dakar Sieger Carlos Sainz und Lucas Cruz, Nasser Al-Attiyah/Timo Gottschalk, Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz sowie Mark Miller und Ralph Picthford (USA/ZA).
Zu Beginn der ausgiebigen Testfahrten standen Abstimmungsfahrten in Spanien auf der Agenda. Danach testete das Team rund um das marokkanische Mahmid, ehe im Testzentrum Erfoud über zwei Wochen längere Distanzen auf der Tagesordnung standen. Dabei bewährte sich die neue Aerodynamik des Race Touareg 3, die eine verbesserte Luftführung und damit eine effizientere Anströmung von Ladeluft- und Wasserkühlung ermöglicht. Rund um Mahmid, wo Temperaturen von bis zu 48 °C im Schatten herrschten, wurde die neue Kühlluftführung auf Herz und Nieren geprüft.
Eine 370 Kilometer lange Schleife, die zweimal täglich absolviert wurde, beinhaltete Dünen mit Vegetation sowie einen grossen Anteil an Offroad-Pisten mit Durchquerung von Flussbetten. Abschnitte mit hartem Untergrund standen ebenso auf dem Programm wie weiche Sandpassagen. Ingesamt absolvierte der Race Touareg 3 bei den Testfahrten knapp 10.000 simulierte Prüfungskilometer, das entspricht der Distanz einer gesamten Formel-1-Saison.

Oh ja, Ruedi, da komme ich mit!
Die Bilder mit dem Vergleich zum Serien-T finde ich schon
klasse. Wenn man den Race-T so sieht, ist es nicht so einfach,
den Serien-T zu erkennen - wenn sie so nebeneinander stehen,
gibt es doch viele Gemeinsamkeiten...
